Building the foundations for better-connected learning
As digital learning continues to evolve, reliable connectivity has become fundamental to schools’ operational success. From cloud-based platforms and classroom devices to staff collaboration and day-to-day administration, schools need infrastructure that can keep pace with technological change and evolving user needs, while providing room to grow.
As part of the wider digital strategy across Insignis Academy Trust, The Mandeville School partnered with TLG TurnITon to deliver a wireless infrastructure upgrade through the Department for Education’s Connect the Classroom scheme.
The project focused on improving Wi-Fi coverage and network performance while creating a stronger, more scalable infrastructure foundation for teaching and learning.
Working closely with school and trust leaders, our team helped simplify the planning process, provide clear technical guidance and ensure the project supported the school’s wider digital ambitions.
The challenge: supporting growing digital demands
Like many schools, The Mandeville School was balancing increasing demands on its technology with budget pressures and the need to plan effectively for the future.
The school wanted greater confidence in the reliability and coverage of its wireless network, ensuring it could support day-to-day teaching, staff mobility, cloud services and a growing number of connected devices.
At the same time, Insignis Academy Trust was developing its wider digital transformation strategy, including plans around cloud services, device refresh programmes and modern learning environments. Connectivity therefore needed to support immediate requirements while creating capacity for its digital environment to continue evolving.
The trust needed a technology partner that could look beyond the installation. Strategic guidance, clear communication and practical planning were important in reducing the workload for internal teams and helping leaders make informed decisions about their infrastructure.
The solution: turning connectivity plans into practical action
TLG TurnITon worked closely with The Mandeville School and Insignis Academy Trust to develop a structured approach to the Connect the Classroom project.
The first stage was about understanding the school’s existing network environment to identify where improvements would have the greatest impact.
Using these insights, we helped shape a phased infrastructure improvement plan aligned with DfE connectivity standards and the trust’s wider digital strategy.
The project included:
- Wireless heat mapping and coverage analysis
- Wi-Fi upgrade planning and infrastructure recommendations
- Access point and switching assessments
- Network design with future capacity and scalability in mind
- Support with budgeting and strategic planning
- Ongoing collaboration with trust leadership and technical teams
As important as the technical solution, the project has to be manageable and understandable for the people responsible for delivery at the school and trust. Regular review meetings, open communication and ongoing technical guidance gave clear visibility and confidence throughout the project.
Every recommendation was considered in the context of the school itself, balancing performance, scalability, budget and long-term sustainability to create an approach that worked for its environment and wider ambitions.
Outcome: a stronger foundation for what comes next
The Connect the Classroom upgrade has given The Mandeville School a stronger foundation for its continued use of digital technology across teaching and learning.
With improved wireless infrastructure and clearer network planning, the school is better equipped to support modern classroom technology, cloud-based platforms and increasing device usage across its environment.
The project has also provided greater visibility around future infrastructure requirements, helping Insignis Academy Trust make informed decisions about investment and its wider digital development priorities.
Key results:
- Greater confidence in wireless coverage and network reliability
- Scalable infrastructure foundation for future growth
- Alignment with modern digital learning requirements
- Reduced pressure on internal teams through collaborative planning and support
- Clearer long-term roadmap for connectivity and infrastructure improvements
The result: stronger connectivity solutions that work reliably in the background so teachers, staff and pupils can focus on what matters now and for the future.
